PRESIDENT

Picture
Ari Stein
Ari (Yeshivat Sha'arei Mevaseret Zion class of 5780) is a third year majoring in Biology. He is known for over salting his cholent and introducing the pizza puff to the South Side. Ari’s favorite star on the American flag is the 36th, his favorite color red carpet is burgundy, and his favorite peula is low ropes. Ari considers the 1994 discovery of GFP as a marker for gene expression to be the most underrated scientific advancement of the last century and is excited to continue the good work of former president David Lewis (shlit”a).

Talia Elkin
Talia Elkin was born in New York, NY on Friday, September 13, 2002 in New York Presbyterian Hospital. Since then, some highlights of her life have included her pirate-themed fourth birthday party, her year at Migdal Oz, and her many hours spent napping on Hillel couches. Talia’s dual Ashki-Moroccan identity is best represented by kasha varnishkes and pastilla, two of her favorite foods. She doesn't know what she's majoring in yet, but it'll probably be something unemployable. To challenge her in a game of Anagrams, click here (you’ll probably lose, though).

Akiva Shlomovich
Akiva Shlomovich is a second year studying Economics. He won the election after facing off against Cadet Scott who was a formidable opponent, but stood no chance against the intensely Jewish name that Akiva has. He spends most of his time at Hillel doing work, or pretending to do work while talking with friends. He likes to spend time during sports seasons complaining about the 49ers, and getting really upset when the Jazz lose in the 1st round.

Gabbai Rishon

Hey Ben, remember Birthright?
Joey Tropper
Joey is a third year majoring in Business Econ. He was surprisingly considered a strong candidate for the board even though he abandoned Yavneh during COVID and watches sports games on his phone during Yavneh events. Like his predecessor in the Gabbai Rishon position, he would love to see people volunteer to lein. Joey spends his free time criticizing the decisions of the other Yavneh board members.

Alex Weiss
Alex is a second year from one-town-over from Livingston, New Jersey planning to study math and economics. He doesn’t really know what to put here, which is why it’s a month late (thanks Ari for the temporary pic!). He thinks that he lives 15 minutes from Newark Airport, but apparently it’s closer to 20 minutes depending on how you drive. He enjoys riding on Divvy bikes around Hyde Park, even when he ends up falling off them.

Adina Ziv
Adina Ziv, formerly known as the first lady of Yavneh, was born in Pasadena, CA (and no, that’s not how she got her name). She is the first and probably last graduate of Valley Torah High School (alma mater of basketball star Ryan Turrell) to attend UChicago. She is a second year majoring in Psychology and hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. Her other notable achievements include knowing the words to every Taylor Swift song. If you have any free Lyft rides left, please donate here.

Shabbos Chair

It's really 'cause I like bowling shoes.
Clara Sandler
Clara Sandler is a third year studying political science and religious studies originally from Los Angeles. She attended Shalhevet High School and Midreshet Lindenbaum, which you know means she’s really shtark. When she’s not crying, you can find her at mincha or taking a nap. She likes to go to baseball games and to eat corned beef sandwiches. Her Harry Potter knowledge is just past the acceptable threshold, just like her running commentary. To join her campaign against the frosted mechitza click here.
